Lady GaGa

Lady GaGa

Another from the list, but I realise now I have an immense amount of respect for her. She's an amazing performer, she has a powerful voice and she's really wacky - she doesn't follow the crowd like everyone else. And, despite her bizzare personality, she is a decent role model. For a start, she's not super skinny - she has a lovely curvy figure, without being ridiculously thin. Sure she's usually bleach blonde and covered in make up, but she's a very down-to-Earth person.

Recently, I read something on the internet, from a Lady Gaga fan who had waited like, three days to meet her, with no way to get home, as she had missed her train. On the first chance she had to meet her, she had been pushed down by paparazzi, then she waited ages by the side of the road, in the hope Lady Gaga's car would come round the corner. Eventually, it did, and they finally got to meet. The girl went on about how much of an inspiration Gaga was to her, and how she had waited so long to meet her, and that she had no way of getting home, as she had no money left, etc. Lady Gaga, overwhelmed by the lovliness of her fans, reached into her own purse and gave this girl some money to get home. I mean come on! How many celebrities of today would do that?!

I've also noticed how she gets upset when she wins an award, or even at her own shows, and I think it's amazing that she is still completely overwhelmed by her position in music now.

Talking about her music, shall we get on with it? Okay, I never used to like her music...then it got annoyingly catchy, now I don't mind saying I love her music. I couldn't pick a favourite song, because most of them are pretty good, but here are two that I really like:

(gonna have to go with the 10 minute one with all the dialogue)

I also like how she tells a story in her songs/videos.

Anyway, her new single, 'Judas' is pretty cool. I don't think it sounds exactly the same as 'Bad Romance', but I guess its similar in some respects - and they're both about bad romances! Fancy that!

Here, you can judge for yourself.

Personally, I don't like her song 'Born This Way', as it is too poppy sounding.

LADY GAGA!!!!!

Freefall's First Gig!!

Freefall, finishing the song 'The Only Exception' (originally by Paramore).

It was amazing! I never realised they had such good stage presence. I'm so proud of them, and I cannot wait until their next gig - not sure when that is though. I also gain the feeling that attending all their gigs is going to cost me quite a bit of money over time. But ah well.

I also discovered a band called The Making, who you can find on Facebook. If you'd like to check out Freefall's Facebook page, click here:

http://www.facebook.com/FBFreefall

And if you want to check out their videos, click here:

http://www.youtube.com/user/FreeFallMusic2011

Their setlist included (not necessarily in order):

Slither (Originally by Velvet Revolver)

Plug In Baby (Originally by Muse)

The Only Exception (Originally by Paramore)

Killing In The Name (Originally by Rage Against The Machine)

they also ended up winging;

Sweet Child O' Mine (Originally by Guns And Roses)

into

Gaybar (Originally by Electric Six)

So, if you like this sort of music, then you should really check out Freefall! They're planning to work on their own material very soon. .

My Portfolio

Ahh, I know, the second post in a row that doesn't have anything specifically to do with me discovering new music. However, I would really appreciate it if you took a look at my portfolio!

Taken 9th May at the local music shop, then edited later that day :)

http://www.flickr.com/photos/yaykirsty It's on there.

Aha! I've found a way that I can relate this post to music! My boy/friends' band are playing their first gig tomorrow! And I'm super excited!! Serious, I cannot believe how hyped up I am about it! I'm genuinely proud of them!
They're called Freefall (formerly Six Degrees of Something), and it would be great if you came along and checked them out.
http://www.facebook.com/FBFreefall

You can access their gig page from their official page. So, if you're living in the Telford area and like live music, I suggest you come along!! They're performing as part of an under-18's band night, at The Place Theatre in Oakengates, Telford. It's only £5 on the door! The gig starts at 7pm. It'd be great if you came along to show your support, or check them out!

Super excited!

Thanks. Hopefully, more posts about me discovering new music to come. x

Photography!

As well as music, I also really enjoy photography! I've been into it for a couple of years now, and since starting college, I've had more opportunities and access to better facilities, etc.

If you would like to see more of my photography, head to these websites:

Thank you, and I hope you like my work. Don't forget to follow or 'Like' the page, it'd be very much appreciated.

Franz Ferdinand

Another from the list - Franz Ferdinand.

I've liked these guys for a long time. They, along with The Feeling, were my favourite band before The Hoosiers came along. It's funny how people go through phases. There was a time where I would not stop listening to 'Take Me Out' by Franz Ferdinand - one of the only two songs I knew by them. And then I fell into my huge Hoosier phase, then into my Muse phase, which I'm still very much in!

Anyway, Franz Ferdinand. Why do I like them? Their songs are so catchy! They give me nearly everything I could want from a song - a catchy beat, guitars, indie/alternative melodies and four alright-looking guys. I love pretty much every song on all their albums because they're fun. Even if they don't make sense.

Franz Ferdinand - 'Tell Her Tonight' from their debut, self-titled album, 'Franz Ferdinand'.

Franz Ferdinand - 'This Boy' from their second album, 'You Could Have It So Much Better'.

Franz Ferdinand - 'Lucid Dreams' from the third album, 'Tonight:Franz Ferdinand'.

So, yeah, I think they're wonderful! And, it's a shame, as I could have seen them in 2009, but I didn't get a chance to book tickets. From what I've seen on coverage of their sets on Glastonbury and the like, they're pretty amazing live. But, they're on my list - I wouldn't mind seeing them, I just don't know who would go with me - most of my friends are into heavier stuff.

That's all for Franz Ferdinand for now.

Sorry.

Sorry, I haven't been posting as much as I should, even with all the days off I've had! Also, Spotify, my main source of music, has cut it's hours considerably. From being able to listen to however many hours of music I wanted to, I can only listen to 10. A month. However, my connections been really bad during the past month or so, so I haven't used Spotify much, because it drains the connection even more...
So, I might ask for more recommendations, and pay attention to the recommendations my Last.Fm account gives me. If you would like to visit my Last.Fm account, click here:
http://www.last.fm/user/kirsty7667

I shall go back to discovering more new music as soon as I can - it might be a little harder, now I've started college again, but there's always evenings and weekends, and I also get Thursday off completely now.

So...
Sorry for the really boring post, but yeah.

Thanks.

TRC

Another recommendation.

They're catchy.

I'm not sure how to describe them...they're kinda shouty, but they're alright. They're kinda like a darker, more metal Every Time I Die, so yeah.

That's all for now.

Rise To Remain

A recommendation I received on Facebook.

They're okay, they're not the best I've heard, but not the worst either. The vocals (when they're not screaming) remind me vaguely of Avenged Sevenfold. The only problem is the sound within the song 'Bridges Will Burn' changes and alters far too much - it sounds more like a medley rather than just one song.

However, I do like it, and I find it catchy, and it's easy to hear that they're all talented musicians, the only thing I get put off by is the amount of screaming. I don't mind some screaming, but yeah, there can be a little too much of it.

Nonetheless, their songs seem catchy, and I've mainly enjoyed what I've heard. I recommend them.

The Hoosiers

The Hoosiers
Okay, maybe it's a good time to get this obsession out of the way. And boy, was I obsessed. I don't even know...I can't even remember how I first got into them...I think it was hearing their stuff on the radio over and over again.
Their first album was quite something, it was brilliant, I loved it. Then they said they would go darker and edgier, and after nearly four years of waiting  for this "darker, edgier sound", and poppy single 'Choices', they come out with 'The Illusion of Safety'. Now, it's alright, but its in no way dark or edgy. If anything it's a collaboration of the sounds from Girls Aloud, and other mainstream, pop artists, with only a slight tilt of independence. The most unusual song on the album would be 'Little Brutes', and it's probably my favourite because it's not as poppy. I mean, don't get me wrong, I still love their debut album; 'The Trick To Life', because that has some crazy shit on it! Their first album has so much more to offer me, and the second one disappointed me quite a bit, I don't think I've played it since I got it, which was before the actual release date, because I got a special edition 3D-cover one, 'cause I'm cool.

My favourite songs by these guys would have to be either 'Killer' or 'The Trick To Life'.

The next video is a song of their second album; 'The Illusion of Safety'.

It sounds like Girls Aloud doing the Never Ending Story theme tune...

Anyway. I went to see The Hoosiers live on 21st October 2008, and it was really good, I got right to the front as well. But it was very different to seeing Muse, sure there was flashing lights and a whole bunch of randomness, but it wasn't as epic or grandiose. I mean, they sounded great, they interacted with the audience, they did everything right, and it was great. I also took some pictures. On my old phone...which nearly died.

Emilie Autumn

Emilie Autumn

Okay, she's really quite different to Muse but she's still pretty much my second favourite musician. I think I've liked her longer than I've liked Muse, but she's not as all-roundly epic as Muse.
Anyway, enough about Muse.

Emilie Autumn. I have a massive girl-crush on her. And why-ever not?! She's sexy as hell!

Even without her sexy-ass make-up she's still beautiful...

And this is why I must go to an EA gig...as well as all the fucking tea and girl-kissing!!

As well as visual eye-candy, she's also the alternative person's ear-candy. She has a very distinctive sound which has changed a hell of a lot since her debut album, 'Enchant'. I'd say her music has a very acquired tasted, and sometimes, some of the studio stuff doesn't capture the full beauty of her voice, although she has a large vocal range and dexterity.

Her debut, 'Enchant', had a wide variety of different music within it - hip-hop, swing, jazz, rock, etc, but they all had an EA twist which always included harpsichords and violins, and that has been the distinctive theme throughout her entire career.
Her genre of music has been described as victorindustrial, merging industrial, gothic music with instruments of the Victorian era.
She has many different albums, one of which, 'Laced/Unlaced', is just filled with fantastic instrumentals.

Her other albums have a very dark theme which is quite disturbing.

To hear more of her songs, catch her on Youtube, or go to her official website:

From there, you will be linked to other official sites.

Enjoy :)

Music Personality Survey

I just took a music personality survey to see what kind of music I was into, just for fun, and it turns out the music I mainly listen to is fast, loud, distorted and aggressive. Which is true. The other highest results were electrical, percussive, dense and complex.

You can take the survey here:

http://www.musicmint.com/survey.php

All you have to do is listen to about 40 fifteen-second music clips and choose how much you like or dislike it. It's quite fun, and there's a huge variety of different music.
Your results will then be shown with gauges and bars, you can click on them to play music, as well.

It's fun :)

Muse

Muse

These guys are my favourite band, and have been only for a couple of years, three at the most. Before Muse, the band I obsessed over the most was The Hoosiers, but now it's Muse. I first discovered them when one of their songs (which turned out to be 'Hysteria') was put to a bunch of Hoosiers clips. I then got a Spotify account and got a whole bunch of their songs and realised they were fucking amazing. I ended up buying all their albums within the space of six months (even after saying I would never buy 'The Resistance' because I didn't like the sound of it...) I stayed at my computer for five hours straight listening to their five hour feature on Radio 1, I watched their H.A.A.R.P. DVD so many times. Then I saw them live and that was one of the most immense times of my life. Everything was just so epic and amazing. I'd love to be able to meet them and tell them how much they mean to me. Just everything! Their lyrics, their melodies, their plain-old musical talent. They have made it so far in the world of music, and I admire them so much for sticking at it and not just giving up. And they also just seem as though they're really down-to-Earth (maybe not Matt), kind, generous people. Their music has changed so much throughout the years, there's something for everyone with their music. With Muse, I branched out my musical tastes further afield to the likes of Lady Gaga, Radiohead, Rage Against The Machine, Chopin, Justice, and so forth.

My favourite song by them has to be 'The Groove', B-side to 'Time Is Running Out' from the album 'Absolution' at the moment anyway. It's a shame it's only a b-side, it's fucking amazing, and sexy.

If I had to pick a least favourite song, it would have to be 'Exogenesis Symphony, Part 3: Redemption' from the latest album, ;The Resistance'. I think it's so weird that the same people who recorded 'Plug In Baby' whilst they were off their faces on 'shrooms, and other songs such as Dead Star, Agitated, and Coma, could come up with an amazing 15 minute, three part Symphony. But they did! I just hate the last part, it's so dull in comparison...

I have no idea how this band don't win 'Best Live Band' awards every year, seriously, they're fucking amazing. Okay, they don't interact verbally with the crowd as much as other bands, but they sure as hell make you feel included and pour their heart and soul into the performance each time. Apart from when they're forced to lip-sync, they just piss about, which is fun and shows they don't take themselves too seriously.

This next video is from when I went to see them at Lancashire County Cricket Ground, Manchester, on 4th September 2010. Sorry for the really unsteady camera but it was seriously one of the best times of my life. The only thing that could have made it better was a better camera and all my friends there.

I Wrestled A Bear Once

Okay, lets go with a post about the latest addition to my huge list of stuff I listen to. I wouldn't say these guys are anywhere near my favourite, but they're alright to listen to once in a very long while.
