Muse

Muse

These guys are my favourite band, and have been only for a couple of years, three at the most. Before Muse, the band I obsessed over the most was The Hoosiers, but now it's Muse. I first discovered them when one of their songs (which turned out to be 'Hysteria') was put to a bunch of Hoosiers clips. I then got a Spotify account and got a whole bunch of their songs and realised they were fucking amazing. I ended up buying all their albums within the space of six months (even after saying I would never buy 'The Resistance' because I didn't like the sound of it...) I stayed at my computer for five hours straight listening to their five hour feature on Radio 1, I watched their H.A.A.R.P. DVD so many times. Then I saw them live and that was one of the most immense times of my life. Everything was just so epic and amazing. I'd love to be able to meet them and tell them how much they mean to me. Just everything! Their lyrics, their melodies, their plain-old musical talent. They have made it so far in the world of music, and I admire them so much for sticking at it and not just giving up. And they also just seem as though they're really down-to-Earth (maybe not Matt), kind, generous people. Their music has changed so much throughout the years, there's something for everyone with their music. With Muse, I branched out my musical tastes further afield to the likes of Lady Gaga, Radiohead, Rage Against The Machine, Chopin, Justice, and so forth.

My favourite song by them has to be 'The Groove', B-side to 'Time Is Running Out' from the album 'Absolution' at the moment anyway. It's a shame it's only a b-side, it's fucking amazing, and sexy.

If I had to pick a least favourite song, it would have to be 'Exogenesis Symphony, Part 3: Redemption' from the latest album, ;The Resistance'. I think it's so weird that the same people who recorded 'Plug In Baby' whilst they were off their faces on 'shrooms, and other songs such as Dead Star, Agitated, and Coma, could come up with an amazing 15 minute, three part Symphony. But they did! I just hate the last part, it's so dull in comparison...

I have no idea how this band don't win 'Best Live Band' awards every year, seriously, they're fucking amazing. Okay, they don't interact verbally with the crowd as much as other bands, but they sure as hell make you feel included and pour their heart and soul into the performance each time. Apart from when they're forced to lip-sync, they just piss about, which is fun and shows they don't take themselves too seriously.

This next video is from when I went to see them at Lancashire County Cricket Ground, Manchester, on 4th September 2010. Sorry for the really unsteady camera but it was seriously one of the best times of my life. The only thing that could have made it better was a better camera and all my friends there.
