A recommendation I received on Facebook.
They're okay, they're not the best I've heard, but not the worst either. The vocals (when they're not screaming) remind me vaguely of Avenged Sevenfold. The only problem is the sound within the song 'Bridges Will Burn' changes and alters far too much - it sounds more like a medley rather than just one song.
However, I do like it, and I find it catchy, and it's easy to hear that they're all talented musicians, the only thing I get put off by is the amount of screaming. I don't mind some screaming, but yeah, there can be a little too much of it.
Nonetheless, their songs seem catchy, and I've mainly enjoyed what I've heard. I recommend them.
Okay, maybe it's a good time to get this obsession out of the way. And boy, was I obsessed. I don't even know...I can't even remember how I first got into them...I think it was hearing their stuff on the radio over and over again. Their first album was quite something, it was brilliant, I loved it. Then they said they would go darker and edgier, and after nearly four years of waiting for this "darker, edgier sound", and poppy single 'Choices', they come out with 'The Illusion of Safety'. Now, it's alright, but its in no way dark or edgy. If anything it's a collaboration of the sounds from Girls Aloud, and other mainstream, pop artists, with only a slight tilt of independence. The most unusual song on the album would be 'Little Brutes', and it's probably my favourite because it's not as poppy. I mean, don't get me wrong, I still love their debut album; 'The Trick To Life', because that has some crazy shit on it! Their first album has so much more to offer me, and the second one disappointed me quite a bit, I don't think I've played it since I got it, which was before the actual release date, because I got a special edition 3D-cover one, 'cause I'm cool.
My favourite songs by these guys would have to be either 'Killer' or 'The Trick To Life'.
The next video is a song of their second album; 'The Illusion of Safety'.
It sounds like Girls Aloud doing the Never Ending Story theme tune...
Anyway. I went to see The Hoosiers live on 21st October 2008, and it was really good, I got right to the front as well. But it was very different to seeing Muse, sure there was flashing lights and a whole bunch of randomness, but it wasn't as epic or grandiose. I mean, they sounded great, they interacted with the audience, they did everything right, and it was great. I also took some pictures. On my old phone...which nearly died.
Okay, she's really quite different to Muse but she's still pretty much my second favourite musician. I think I've liked her longer than I've liked Muse, but she's not as all-roundly epic as Muse. Anyway, enough about Muse.
Emilie Autumn. I have a massive girl-crush on her. And why-ever not?! She's sexy as hell!
Even without her sexy-ass make-up she's still beautiful...
And this is why I must go to an EA gig...as well as all the fucking tea and girl-kissing!!
As well as visual eye-candy, she's also the alternative person's ear-candy. She has a very distinctive sound which has changed a hell of a lot since her debut album, 'Enchant'. I'd say her music has a very acquired tasted, and sometimes, some of the studio stuff doesn't capture the full beauty of her voice, although she has a large vocal range and dexterity.
Her debut, 'Enchant', had a wide variety of different music within it - hip-hop, swing, jazz, rock, etc, but they all had an EA twist which always included harpsichords and violins, and that has been the distinctive theme throughout her entire career. Her genre of music has been described as victorindustrial, merging industrial, gothic music with instruments of the Victorian era. She has many different albums, one of which, 'Laced/Unlaced', is just filled with fantastic instrumentals.
Her other albums have a very dark theme which is quite disturbing.
To hear more of her songs, catch her on Youtube, or go to her official website:
I just took a music personality survey to see what kind of music I was into, just for fun, and it turns out the music I mainly listen to is fast, loud, distorted and aggressive. Which is true. The other highest results were electrical, percussive, dense and complex.
All you have to do is listen to about 40 fifteen-second music clips and choose how much you like or dislike it. It's quite fun, and there's a huge variety of different music. Your results will then be shown with gauges and bars, you can click on them to play music, as well.
These guys are my favourite band, and have been only for a couple of years, three at the most. Before Muse, the band I obsessed over the most was The Hoosiers, but now it's Muse. I first discovered them when one of their songs (which turned out to be 'Hysteria') was put to a bunch of Hoosiers clips. I then got a Spotify account and got a whole bunch of their songs and realised they were fucking amazing. I ended up buying all their albums within the space of six months (even after saying I would never buy 'The Resistance' because I didn't like the sound of it...) I stayed at my computer for five hours straight listening to their five hour feature on Radio 1, I watched their H.A.A.R.P. DVD so many times. Then I saw them live and that was one of the most immense times of my life. Everything was just so epic and amazing. I'd love to be able to meet them and tell them how much they mean to me. Just everything! Their lyrics, their melodies, their plain-old musical talent. They have made it so far in the world of music, and I admire them so much for sticking at it and not just giving up. And they also just seem as though they're really down-to-Earth (maybe not Matt), kind, generous people. Their music has changed so much throughout the years, there's something for everyone with their music. With Muse, I branched out my musical tastes further afield to the likes of Lady Gaga, Radiohead, Rage Against The Machine, Chopin, Justice, and so forth.
My favourite song by them has to be 'The Groove', B-side to 'Time Is Running Out' from the album 'Absolution' at the moment anyway. It's a shame it's only a b-side, it's fucking amazing, and sexy.
If I had to pick a least favourite song, it would have to be 'Exogenesis Symphony, Part 3: Redemption' from the latest album, ;The Resistance'. I think it's so weird that the same people who recorded 'Plug In Baby' whilst they were off their faces on 'shrooms, and other songs such as Dead Star, Agitated, and Coma, could come up with an amazing 15 minute, three part Symphony. But they did! I just hate the last part, it's so dull in comparison...
I have no idea how this band don't win 'Best Live Band' awards every year, seriously, they're fucking amazing. Okay, they don't interact verbally with the crowd as much as other bands, but they sure as hell make you feel included and pour their heart and soul into the performance each time. Apart from when they're forced to lip-sync, they just piss about, which is fun and shows they don't take themselves too seriously.
This next video is from when I went to see them at Lancashire County Cricket Ground, Manchester, on 4th September 2010. Sorry for the really unsteady camera but it was seriously one of the best times of my life. The only thing that could have made it better was a better camera and all my friends there.
Muse - Lancashire County Cricket Ground - 4th September 2010
Okay, lets go with a post about the latest addition to my huge list of stuff I listen to. I wouldn't say these guys are anywhere near my favourite, but they're alright to listen to once in a very long while. And it's mainly just the Uprising cover that I've heard.
